100 Days And Counting...

One-hundred days from today, Julie and I will be married. Whoa. The time has been flying by and we are ready for June 13th to get here but are still enjoying being engaged and all the stuff that goes along with it.

Friends and family are working on parties and other things for the wedding and it is really exciting and means a lot to us that people want to do these kinds of things for us. Thanks to all of you!

It's been a while since one of us has blogged but that's because we wanted to keep out of towners up to date with what needed to be done as far as hotels, etc. with the most recent post. We should be writing more stuff now that they all should have had a chance to check out the blog.

Hope everyone is well and we look forward to seeing you in 100 days!

Welcome To Our Wedding Blog

Dear family & friends,

Julie and I want to thank you for visiting our wedding blog (the #1 place on the web for details regarding our wedding!) and hope it helps you with your plans for traveling to Birmingham. Any updates will always be listed on the right for your convenience.

We will also post random thoughts or stories regarding our wedding plans for your (and mainly our) amusement. If you haven't been following along we hope you will from now on. Past posts are listed at the very bottom on the right entitled, "Blog Archive".

In addition, there is a link to the hotel where we have reserved a block of rooms for you at the Hilton Embassy Suites. You can either click on the link and enter code "MHW" to receive our special rate or call the number listed and make a reservation under the "Mummert-Harris Wedding".

Included with your room is a buffet style breakfast that runs from 7:30-10:30 am with both hot and cold items and you also have the option of an omelette cooked to order with your choice of toppings. There is also a complimentary manager's reception from 5:30-7:30 pm daily and offers a variety of beer, wine, liquor and sodas.

Also, you will see a link to The Sonnet House, where the ceremony and reception will take place, along with directions to and from the hotel. Directions to and from the rehearsal dinner at Veranda on Highland are also included.

Finally, below the hotel information, is a listing of restaurants, bars, golf courses, shopping areas, et cetera if you are looking for something to do or eat during your down time in Birmingham.

If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to contact Julie or me. Our e-mail addresses are at the right if you don't have our contact information.

We hope that you can make it to Birmingham and we look forward to seeing everyone in June.

Love,
Julie & Gabe

This Is Your Brain. This Is Your Brain After Registering For 10 Hours During The Gift-Giving Season

Julie registering at Williams-Sonoma. Two seconds after this picture was taken, I moved my elbow back and knocked a Xmas plate off the counter and shattered it. Nothing makes a place go silent quite like a broken plate. But that's what they get for putting all of those plates on the checkout counter. W-S watched me like a hawk the rest of the night.

I spent a lot of time in the barware section.

$2000 espresso machine. Ridiculous. You know what would be even more ridiculous? If someone bought it for us.

The aforementioned kitchen torch.

The "Wedding" Blog

It's amazing how much the price of stuff is jacked up when you add "wedding" to the beginning of it. For example, "A haircut is $50 but a wedding haircut is $100." Same haircut, different price.

So, I was thinking, that's a pretty good racket and why shouldn't I do the same with this blog? This IS a wedding blog after all and the demand for those and the skill associated with putting one together is much greater than non-wedding blogs so everyone needs to send me $1 for every post you read. Thanks.

Julie and I are going to register this weekend for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaall of the gifts that you, our dear friends and family, are going to give to us these next few months!

And if Julie thinks I'm not registering for the above kitchen torch or a personalized steak brander or a mango pitter or enameled crab crackers or whatever cool stuff they have...she obviously has no idea who she's marrying. I mean, when else am I going to have the opportunity to get this stuff as gifts? Plus I get to shoot the gift gun or whatever they call it. Sweet.

We'll take some pictures of it all and post them on the blog later...

Let Them Eat Cake!

One of the more fun things to decide on for the wedding has been the cakes. I’ve been drooling over pictures of cakes in magazines and online for months now and had a pretty good idea of what we wanted the cakes to look like. I got names of cake bakers from other people and suggestions from my caterer and started making appointments. I’d really like to make appointments with tons of cake bakers so I can get the little sample cakes they give you for tasting. I might not fit in my dress by June if I did that but I’d sure have fun eating the cakes.

My sister, Rebecca, and I met with a cake lady on Friday and really liked her. Her cakes are so pretty and taste great! The thing that I’m most excited about is that she said she was going to name a cake design after me. If she’s never done a design that she and a bride come up with then she names if for them. So when you eat the cake at our wedding, you’ll be eating the original “Julie Cake”!

Julie Has Something To Say

Like a good maid of honor, my sister, Rebecca, pointed out that my additions to our blog are seriously lacking. While posting to the blog is always on my to do list (wedding or otherwise), it seems I never get around to post anything. So I promise that you’ll be hearing from me soon. I have lots to share and hopefully they’ll be some pictures as well.

I Need Help With My Cake

Julie has decided on a baker for our cakes so now I need to start thinking about what mine is going to look like. To me there are really only two choices...

Fudgie the Whale

or

Cookie Puss

Part Of A Well-Balanced Balanced Rehearsal Dinner

Julie and I are talking to various places about having our rehearsal dinner there so if you are vegetarian, allergic to shellfish or peanuts, are lactose intolerant or have some weirdo food allergy let us know so you don't die the night before our wedding and totally ruin our weekend.

That Was Easy

Julie went to look at invitations on Saturday and spent 2-3 hours working on what she wanted. I was in the neighborhood and on my way to a friend's house to watch football and drink beer when Julie called and wanted my opinion. Oh, shit. This is out of my jurisdiction and I knew I'd have no idea how to choose. Julie had narrowed it down to two invitations and somehow I picked the one that Julie liked the most and she was pleased with my choice.

The owner of the shop was talking to us and said it must have been my beard that helped me pick the right invitation (he is a fellow bearded guy and obviously knows they give us extra-sensory perception) and that the "other guy" Julie brought in didn't choose as well as me. Funny dude.

So Julie spent most of her Saturday afternoon working on this and I spent 2 minutes on it and everyone in the store seemed impressed I was in there and that I'm the hero and a great fiance'. Just in case ya didn't know.
